# Investment Accounting: clean books for every entity

Does each month end mean long nights and spreadsheet fixes? Investment Accounting keeps clean books for every entity you run. [Try the platform](/try) to see the books of a sample office.

## A set of books for each entity
Each fund, partnership or holding company gets its own books. Each has its own chart of accounts and its own months to close. Every entry has two sides, so the books always balance. Pull a trial balance, a sub-ledger or a list of what you hold, as of any date you pick. No more digging through old files to answer a simple question.

## Every currency, side by side
Each entry keeps its own currency. Each entity keeps its books in its own currency too. There is a cash account for each currency you hold. Each rate has a date, and you can fix one with a new copy. A rate typed in by hand needs a second OK. At month end, the books are marked to the new rates. That entry turns back when the next month opens.

## Close each month with no surprises
Each entity closes its own months. The close shows the work that is still open, so nothing slips. If someone opens a closed month again, the book records who did it and why. Your auditor sees a clean trail. You see a month that ends on time, not one that drags on for weeks.

## Two people on every hand entry
A journal entry typed by hand needs a second person to OK it. So does a fix to an old entry. The OK stays with the entry. Your auditor can see who made it and who signed off. One person can't post a mistake, or worse, on their own. It is a simple rule, and it keeps the books safe.

## Partner accounts and waterfalls
Capital accounts track each partner's money in, money out and share of the results. Waterfalls hand out the results to partners in the order the deal sets. No more side spreadsheets for each partner. Each partner's number ties back to the books, so a question gets a fast answer.

## One view of it all
All the entities roll up into one view, in one currency for your board. Balances move over at the closing rate. The gap from the rate change has its own line, so no one has to guess. Look at one entity, a group or the whole office, as of any date you pick.

## The fund ledger flows in
Calls, payouts and fund values flow from the Fund Ledger into the books. So do the trades and cash moves from your custodian. Each entry keeps the record it came from. You don't type the same number twice. The books and the fund ledger always agree.
